PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin-film transistor substrate of the horizontal electric field applying type and a manufacturing method thereof that are adaptive for simplifying steps, and to provide a liquid crystal panel that employs them. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device comprises a gate line on the first substrate; a data line crossing the gate line for defining a pixel area; a gate electrode; a source electrode; a drain electrode; and a thin-film transistor; a common line formed in parallel to the gate line on the first substrate; a common electrode extended from the common line in the pixel area; and a pixel electrode spaced apart from the common line and the common electrode in the pixel area to be formed in a pixel hole passing through the gate insulating film, where the semiconductor layer overlaps with a source and drain metal pattern including the data line, the source electrode and the drain electrode, and the drain electrode protrudes from the semiconductor layer toward the upper portion of the pixel electrode and is connected to the pixel electrode.
