The present invention is a wireless local area network and hand-off control method for its mobile terminal, the wireless local area network comprises: mobile terminal, access point (AP) by which the mobile terminal accessing the network , channel monitor that monitoring the channel on the AP and transferring the monitoring information to the mobile terminal; the local area network further maintains neighboring channel table and obtaining channel monitoring data from the neighboring information manager, and transfers the neighboring channel table to the neighboring information manager. The handoff control method for the mobile terminal is that: monitors the channel on the AP at network side and obtains the channel monitoring data; transfers the channel monitoring data to the mobile terminal; the mobile terminal decides if it need handoff and /or decides the objective AP.
