<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide carbon black for shielding light receiving/emitting elements excellent in dispersion in a resin component, excellent in light shielding effects, and preferable as a member for shielding the light from the light emitting element to the light receiving element. <P>SOLUTION: The carbon black preferable for shielding the light receiving/emitting elements is subjected to dry oxidation and/or wet oxidation.
