PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize and fix a time lag from a manipulation of a shutter key to actual start of photographing operation. SOLUTION: An electronic still camera comprises: a CCD 12 for photographing a subject; a shutter key 23 to be pressed for instructing photographing; a main CPU 20 which totally controls the entire photographing operation, directly inputs an operation signal due to pressing the shutter key 23 and instructs start of photographing using the CCD 12 as interrupt processing to an initial change of the operation signal in pressing the shutter key; and an image processing engine 13 which starts photographing by resetting a driving timing of the imaging device in accordance with the instruction from the main CPU 20 and executes processing of image data resulting from started photographing.
