PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize a contact nip region for forming a nip by winding a heat resistant belt around a thermal fixing roll from a tangential line of a press part between the thermal fixing roll and a pressure roll, by simple configuration, to prevent deflection or creep deformation in the axial direction of a belt stretching and laying member, and to form the uniform and stable fixing nip over the entire region in the axial direction. SOLUTION: In a fixing device and an image forming apparatus which are provided with the thermal fixing roll 1, the pressure roll 2 for pressing against the thermal fixing roll 1, the heat resistant belt 3 wound around the outer circumference of the pressure roll 2 and moving while it is held between the thermal fixing roll 1 and the pressure roll 2, and the belt stretching and laying member 4 for stretching and laying the heat resistant belt 3, and which fix an unfixed toner image formed on a sheet member, the fixing device and the image forming apparatus includes: a sliding member 5 arranged between the belt stretching and laying member 4 and the pressure roll 2, sliding along the outer circumference of the pressure roll 2, and biting the nip part between the thermal fixing roll 1 and the pressure roll 2; and a press means 9 for pressing the sliding member 5 against the thermal fixing roll 1.
