Method of producing nodular iron

Spheroidal graphite iron is produced by immersing in the melt a porous refractory comprising coke graphite or carbon, the refractory having been impregnated with an alkali metal or magnesium. The refractory may be recycled between ferrous melts and a bath of the appropriate additive metal.
