PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic settlement system which is augmented in security and permits rapid settlement processing.

SOLUTION: In the electronic settlement system, at first, a customer sends his or her biological information together with information set to be used for settlement from a terminal 101 for an individual to an authentication/settlement apparatus 103 disposed in an authentication/settlement center to register them. A member store sends the customer's biological information together with information on a commodity bought by the customer, the date and the like from a terminal 102 for the member store to the authentication/settlement apparatus 103. The authentication/settlement apparatus 103 collates the sent customer's biological information with previously registered data to determine whether or not the customer is a registered customer. For the registered customer, the apparatus determines whether or not the details of shopping of the customer satisfy a condition included in preset information. Only if the condition is satisfied, predetermined settlement processing data are generated and transmitted to a financial institution 104.
