PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a program and a method for file retrieval, allowing efficient execution of retrieval of an actual file stored in a storage device when executing a virus scan in a computer device such as a personal computer. SOLUTION: This program for file retrieval performing the virus scan of a plurality of files inside the storage device makes the computer 1 execute: a step 11 for randomly arranging retrieval order about initials from character strings representing file names of the plurality of files that are retrieval targets; a step 12 for executing retrieval of the plurality of files according to the retrieval order of a produced retrieval order table; a step 13 for recording the file in the middle of processing as a processing-unfinished file when suspending the virus scan; and a step 14 for setting the retrieval order of the file in an unfinished state as the top, and newly randomly rearranging the succeeding retrieval order about the initials that are processing-unfinished, in time of resuming.
