摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further surely ignite fuel of being hardly self-ignitable. SOLUTION: A main injector 21 and a sub-injector 22 are arranged as a fuel injection means for injecting fuel into a combustion chamber 10. Among these injectors, hydrogen being main fuel when operating an internal combustion engine 1, is injected into the combustion chamber 10 from the main injector 22, and gas oil having a higher cetane number than the hydrogen being the main fuel, is injected into the combustion chamber 10 as sub-fuel from the sub-injector 22. The gas oil is injected just before injecting the hydrogen. Thus, since the gas oil can be diffusively burnt in the combustion chamber 10 just before injecting the hydrogen, the compression end temperature being the temperature in the combustion chamber 10 in a compression stroke, can be raised up to the sufficient temperature for self-igniting the hydrogen, and afterwards, the hydrogen can be diffusively burnt by injecting the hydrogen into the combustion chamber 10.
