PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet printer which can correctly detect a position in the horizontal direction of a carriage even when rattling is generated. SOLUTION: The inkjet printer is equipped with the carriage 21 which holds an ink cartridge, a guide shaft 4 which guides the carriage 21 penetrating the carriage 21 in the horizontal direction, an encoder strip 3 stretched in parallel to the guide shaft 4, a sensor 35 which is set at the carriage 21 and detects position information recorded in the encoder strip 3, and a guide rail 2a which guides an upper end part of the carriage 21 and extends in parallel to the guide shaft 4.
