PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for image input/output which enables coexistence of security protection of documents stored in a box and easiness of their distribution. SOLUTION: Even a designated user who does not know a password for the box can output image data in the box by automatically allotting an image data identification number, and providing a means of reporting the number to the user by e-mail, when the image data are registered in the box whose security is protected by the password.
