PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an AC plasma display panel having a high dark room contrast ratio. SOLUTION: The AC plasma display panel includes discharging gas and is equipped with a plurality of pixel sections arranged in rows and columns and having row electrodes. The AC plasma display panel is equipped with a circuit for supplying a driving signal having a first waveform section to induce the first discharge of the discharging gas in each pixel section along the row electrode and a second waveform section to induce a second discharge of the discharging gas in each pixel section along the row electrode to the row electrode in a set-up period. The first and second waveform sections control the first and second discharges so as to maintain the voltage applied to the discharging gas in each pixel section along the row electrode at a discharge threshold voltage while the first and second discharges are generated.
