PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set the energizing amount for a heater coped with variance in resistance values of a head or in various properties of the head itself. SOLUTION: A resistance measuring circuit for the magneto-resistance effect head is mounted on an integrated circuit 5 of an HDD 1. The relation between the changed amount dR of the magnetic resistance of the magneto-resistance effect head and temperature rise amount dT, the relation between the temperature rise amount dT and an average value Pav of protruded amounts of the magneto-resistance effect head, and allowable temperature rise value dT1 taken from a view point of life of the magneto-resistance effect head, are inputted beforehand in a PC10. The changed amount dR of the resistance is calculated from an initial resistance value of the magneto-resistance effect head 3 and a resistance after energized to a heater, and the temperature rise amount dT is obtained from the changed amount dR of the resistance to obtain the protruded amount P2 from the temperature rise amount dT. When the protruded amount P2 is not coming up to a necessary protruding amount P1, the energizing amount V is increased, and when the protruded amount P2 is being reached to the necessary protruding amount P1, the energizing amount V1 at this time is settled to an initial energizing amount of the heater of the shipping time of this HDD and stored in an MPU 7.
