<p>An apparatus for video playback is disclosed, with an optimised file format and production process, such that little or no imagery is processed that is not visible in the resultant displayed image. The image quality may be matched to the display requirements, for example by reducing the quality - or spatial or temporal resolution - of peripheral, edge image regions. The apparatus is suited to non-rectangular images such as cylindrically or fisheye mapped images, and contains a mathematical description of the mapping of the video onto physical or virtual displays. The system advantageously reduces the requirements for image data processing, storage and streaming that are normally needed for overlap areas such as 3 between merged images 1 and 2, the gaps between screens on a video wall (see Figure 6) and the like.</p> |
