Spacing aid and reinforcement element for mortar in brickwork and blockwork

The spacing aid and reinforcement element 11, for placing in mortar between layers of brick or block work as it is being laid, is formed such that it has a length greater than and a width less than the dimensions of the brick or block work it is intended to be used with, along with a height equivalent of the intended depth of mortar between courses of brick/block work. The element may be formed from tapes or strips which may have non-linear edges. Alternatively the element may be formed from lengths of wire or rods bent into a zig-zag or serpentine form. Alternatively, the element may be formed have a helical structure. The ends of the elements are preferably formed to facilitate connection to adjacent similar elements. The element is preferably unfoldable or unrollable from a collapsed form where the parts of the element are relatively closely packed together to an extended form.
