Each cabin (C1, ..CN) is moved on a cable driven by an independent drive (2) and the measuring of the distance between the cabins at the top and bottom in the shaft (1) is undertaken by sensors, e.g. infrared sensors, mounted on the cabins. The actual position of the cabins is determined with the shaft information system. safety module can calculate from the actual travel data of the cabin the brake behaviour required for the cabins to prevent collisions between same.
