A pin for use in making an artificial tooth is made by inserting a pin blank comprising a shaft 1 and a head 4 in a moulding device, to form the head to a shape approximating that of a natural tooth. The pin blank comprises a head 4 and a shaft 1 having a collar 3 adjacent the head an d grooves 2 (Figs. 2a and 2b, not shown) adjacent the free end. The head is either in one piece with the shaft (Fig. 2a, not shown) or screwed on the shaft (Fig. 2b, not shown). For shaping the head. the shaft is pressed into a cavity in a holding member 6 which is lowered under pressure on to a moulding member 12, the unshaped head thus being pressed into a cavity 14 of tooth shape. The moulding members is interchangeable for producing heads of different shapes. After shaping the head, the pin is pushed out of the holding member by an eccentric 9 rotatable on a shaft 10. A crown 16 (Figs. 5a and 5b, not shown) is secured on the head by cement 15. |
