摘要 Olefines are homo- or co-polymerized with one another and/or with non-conjugated diolefines using as catalyst the product of reaction between a transition metal compound and a vinyl alcohol copolymer containing 1 to 20 molar per cent of vinyl alcohol in a polymerized state in its molecule, this product being activated by a metal, a hydride or an organometallic compound of a metal of Groups I to III of the French Standard Periodic Table, optionally with the addition of a halide of the Friedel-Crafts catalyst type. Preferred transition metal compounds are titanium and vanadium derivatives, e.g. TiCl4, Ti(OC2H5)3Cl, VOCl3, VCl5 and VO(OC4H9)3. Preferred activators are trialkylaluminiums and alkylaluminium halides or metallic aluminium may be used with aluminium chloride. In the examples: (a) an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer is hydrolysed and then reacted with TiCl4. The product is then activated with Al(iC4H9)3 or Al(C2H5)2Cl and used to polymerize ethylene; (b) a vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate/vinyl alcohol copolymer is reacted with TiCl4 and activated with Al(nC3H7)3 or Al(C2H5)3 and then used to polymerize ethylene: (c) propylene is homopolymerized or copolymerized with ethylene using a catalyst as in (b) except that the activator is Al(C2H5)3 or Al(iC4H9)3 respectively; (d) a vulcanizable elastomer is formed by copolymerizing propylene with dicyclopentadiene using a catalyst as in (b) except that Al(iC4H9)3 is used and (e) ethylene, propylene and hexadiene-1,4 are terpolymerized using a catalyst as in (d).
