A valve body band, which is clamped around the periphery of a fluid flow control valve (35) (Fig. 14, not shown) between two parallel end walls (34), is formed from a ring 10 of rectangular cross-section to which is welded a shaped head 11. The two annular end faces of the assembly are grooved and the ring is deformed to an elongated oval configuration. The end faces, are then either ground to size, or the radially inner wall (28a) (Fig. 10, not shown), is cut in height, any distortion in the cross-section due to deformation to the elongated oval shape being accommodated during clamping by the end walls (34) of the valve. |
