All the ends of one polarity of a plurality of semi-conductor rectifier stacks (each stack having a middle terminal for A.C. connection) are disposed in electrical and thermal contact with a metallic part of a common casing which acts as a first D.C. collection bar, a second D.C. collection bar being formed by a member in electrical contact with the other ends of the stacks; the outside of the casing is in contact with a cooling medium. The assembly is primarily intended for mounting on a rotatable part of a machine, and in one embodiment, Fig. 1, the rectifier stacks 4 are arranged radially within a metal casing 3, the second D.C. collection bar being formed by a central metal body 6 having a projecting central peg and a conical outer surface which is urged against corresponding conical surfaces on stack contact members 5 by means of an assembly of cup springs 8. Each stack has a terminal 1 for A.C. connection. Alternatively, Fig. 3, the central D.C. collection bar may take the form of a resilient axiallyslotted member 21, the. assembly being fitted into a tubular machine shaft 19 which carries cooling flanges 20 or fan blades.
