An annular groove 4 in a socket 3 and for the reception of a sealing ring, has a base 7 parallel to the axis of the joint, a wall adjacent the mouth of the socket which is partly radial and partly inclined as at 5 and 6, and an opposite radial wall 8. The sealing ring is composed of soft and hard rubber portions 12, 9, the portion 9, comprising a wedge-shaped annulus 10 and an annular flange 11, being substantially complementary in shape to the wall of the groove adjacent the socket mouth, and the soft portion 12 consisting of a cylindrical face which merges into a semicircular face 14 which in turn merges into a straight face inclined to the joint axis and terminating in the radial face 13 at which the two portions are joined.</p> |
