The treatment cell, containing a granular filter medium (4), incorporates a deflector (21) fixed to the cell's side wall between the filter medium and the treated water outlet (8) to prevent material being evacuated with the flushing water. The deflector provides a perfect seal when the treated water outlet valve is closed for a flushing sequence. The cell also has a rapid-opening valve for discharging the flushing water into an adjacent tank, the valve being fitted with a brush to clean the surface of a curved fine-mesh grille between the filter medium and the waste water outlet.
