PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coater stabilizing optical characteristics required as performance of a laminate and permitting continuous application of e.g. a coating to a strip material without requiring a high controlling technique for the apparatus. SOLUTION: An apparatus for control of the concentration of a coating has an optical characteristic measuring instrument measuring optical characteristics of a laminate, a controller outputting signals for controlling the amount of the solvent added by comparing signals of optical characteristics measured by the optical characteristic measuring instrument with predetermined values and an added-amount controlling device for controlling the amount of the solvent added to a coating ink to be applied or the like by the coater in response to output signals from the controller.
