The invention relates to a method for setting up a multi-homed connection with a number n of paths between two components of a communication network. Each component has at least n communication addresses and the communication addresses of at least one first component are converted in the connecting path. The inventive method comprises the following steps: determining n conversion relations of n communication addresses provided for n paths by means of the components; and setting up the multi-homed connection by setting up the n paths using the determined conversion relations. The n conversion relations, either completely or partially, are exchanged between the components by exchanging messages or test messages for k (k = 1 n) communication addresses, thereby giving k conversion relations. The messages or test messages are chosen in such a manner that the conversion of the communication addresses for messages or test messages is identical for the conversion of communication addresses for future paths of the multi-homed connection. Alternatively, conversion relations can be determined by setting up m (m = 1 n) single-homed connections between the components. Preferably, the single-homed connections, in order to avoid multiple connection or path setups and releases, are linked to the multi-homed connection as paths. |
