<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately discriminate and extract a pedestrian and an artificial structure on an infrared image. <P>SOLUTION: In artificial structure determination processing, regarding a gray scale image, on the basis of a change (lateral average luminance projection) F(J) according to the longitudinal position J of average of luminance values along the lateral direction at each longitudinal position J in the longitudinal direction, and a change (differential coefficient) S(J) in tilt according to the longitudinal position J in the lateral average luminance projection F(J), a maximum peak position j_en and a minimum peak position j_st are detected. If an interval length, in a real space, corresponding to a difference between the maximum peak position j_en and the minimum peak position j_st is longer than a predetermined length SLOPE_TH (for example, 1m), thermal distribution in the longitudinal direction is determined to be relatively gradual, and a binarized object is determined as an artificial structure to terminate a series of processes. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
