PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming optical scanner which employs an optical scanner using a deflection polygon mirror composed of a plurality of stages of different reflection angles thereby is prevented from becoming large in size due to multiplication of beams and realizes an optical scanning system having little dislocation of a beam spot and little variation in beam diameter, and which provides a picture having no jitter and out of position registration, enables each optical element to be miniaturized and made thinner to thereby reduce the power consumption of a deflector, and enables the cost to be reduced by miniaturizing each optical element and reducing the number of components. SOLUTION: The structure of the optical deflector composed of a plurality of rotating polygon mirror of a plurality of stages is characterized in that the angles between the deflection and reflection faces of respective stages and the rotation axis of the rotating polygon mirror are different from one another.
