PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the size of a cooling device provided in a rotary electric machine used for driving and regeneratively braking a vehicle and enhance the cooling capacity of the cooling device. SOLUTION: A cooling water channel 7 is formed in part of a motor case 4 that is the shell of a motor 1 in the circumferential direction. In the parts in the circumferential direction, other than the part where the cooling water channel 7 is formed, a gap is formed between a motor stator 3 and the motor case 4 to obtain a cooling oil channel 8. The flow rate of water in the cooling water channel 7 and that of oil in the cooling oil channel 8 are controlled according to the temperature of the coil 13 wound on the motor stator 3.
