PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display device, video signal output device, and channel selection method for the video display device in which user convenience is improved by performing seamless channel selection of video provided via broadcasting and a general networks, for each category. SOLUTION: From terrestrial wave broadcasting and satellite wave broadcasting, EPG information is acquired to extract EPG information regarding presence/absence of a program of a preferable category, broadcasting time, broadcasting contents and the like. Furthermore, information such as the presence/absence of the program of the preferable category, the broadcasting time, the broadcasting contents and the like is extracted, also for net distributed programs, by connection to a video distribution site and keyword search processing of a mail magazine. Such processing enables channel selection processing of the preferable category to deal with public broadcasting and net distribution in a unified manner and seamless channel switching for each category is made possible for video provided via broadcasting and the general network.
