PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image forming apparatus capable of preventing high-density point defects, even when a metal roll is used. SOLUTION: Because the high-density point defect is not generated by the discharge occurring between an intermediate transfer belt and the metal roll, by setting the sum of the arithmetic mean roughness Ra(B) of the back surface of the intermediate transfer belt and the arithmetic mean roughness Ra(R) of the surface of the metal roll to be≤1.2μm, the image forming apparatus having high image quality can be obtained.
