1,066,828. Making nuts and bolts. UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CORPORATION. April 15, 1964 [April 23,1963], No. 15633/64. Heading B3A. [Also in Division F2] Internally or externally threaded members such as the bolts shown, having a resilient locking insert 17, 33 or 53 of nylon &c. (see Division F2), are made by forming two grooves 15, 16, Fig. 2, or 31, 32, Fig. 3, or a continuous, e.g. polygonal or oval, groove 51, Fig. 5, along the bolt &c. by a milling cutter, or by a dovetail cutter so as to be undercut, or by stamping, and then forcing a strip of nylon &c. by a stamping die into the grooves or groove parts. The strip is impaled on the thread parts 14<SP>1</SP> between the grooves (and these parts may have been previously partly removed) and formed to channel shape. The thread crests at the outer edges of the grooves may be staked into the nylon. In Fig. 3 the mid-portion of the insert 33 is compressed so that it edges flow into the thread troughs.
