<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline storage battery improved in charging efficiency and an active material utilization factor by optimizing an additive added to a cadmium negative electrode. <P>SOLUTION: This alkaline storage battery is provided with the cadmium negative electrode formed by applying paste containing a cadmium active material mainly containing a cadmium oxide or a cadmium hydroxide to an electrode substrate.
