PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make effective use of two divided areas when a recording area on an optical recording medium is divided into at least two recording areas and data are recorded to the recording areas selected in accordance with kinds of the data to be recorded. SOLUTION: When inputted data are still-frame images, the remaining capacity of a recording area ARS for an still-frame image is checked (Step S8). When the remaining capacity of the recording area ARS for an still-frame image is scarce, it is determined whether the remaining capacity of a recording area ARV for video is larger than an extension size (Step S9). When the remaining capacity of the recording area ARV for video is larger than the extension size, a boundary pointer is corrected (Step S10), and recording data management information and file system information are also corrected (Step S11), and consequently the recording area ARS for an still-frame image is extended to record still-frame image data to the recording area ARS for an still-frame image (Step S5).
