The invention relates to an injection molding machine or injecting unit (2) and to an injection molding method for injection molding plastic materials (e.g. elastomeric materials), particularly according to cold channel and hot channel techniques. The injection molding machine comprises an extruder (12), a first piston/cylinder unit (4) and a second piston/cylinder unit (22) mounted in series thereto. The cylinder (6) of the first piston/cylinder unit leads into the end of the second piston/cylinder unit located at a distance from an injection mold (46) to be filled. According to the invention, the elastomeric material is firstly led by means of the first piston/cylinder unit (4) through the cylinder (24) of the second piston/cylinder unit (22) and into the injection mold (46). The piston (26) of the second piston/cylinder unit (22) frees the path of flow to the injection mold (46). Afterwards, the piston (26) of the piston/cylinder unit (22) is displaced into the associated cylinder (24) in order to introduce elastomeric material located inside the second cylinder (24) into the injection mold (46). The piston (26) is retracted once the elastomeric material has been vulcanized on the cold channel nozzles.
