A method for the assembly by welding of two steel elements (10, 12), with a carbon content greater than 0.42%, incorporates least one heating stage for heating, with the aid of an induction heating tool (20), the two elements (10, 12) in the single wel zone (18) and a stage for welding with the aid of a laser welding tool (22), of the type in which the preheating stage prior to welding stage is realised with the aid of the induction heating tool (20) operating at a frequency between 2.5 and 10 kHz over a period of about 5 seconds to bring the welding zone to a temperature greater than 300oC to relieve the internal stresses in the welding zone. It also includes a post-heating stage to induce a lengthy cooling stage that prevents the formation of martensite the welding zone (18). The induction heating tool used in this method is also claimed and comprises an annular induction coil (20) of which at lea part (26) of the core (28) projects axially and radially towards the axis (A) of the coaxial elements (12, 14) in the proximity the welding zone (18) to produce localised heating only in the neighbourhood of the welding zone (18).
