An air transporting and/or conditioning system (100) comprising a housing (102), an emitter electrode (232) configured within the housing (102), a collector electrode (242) configured within the housing (102) and positioned downstream from the emitter electrode (232), and a integrally shielded germicidal lamp (290) to selectively direct UV light emitted therefrom. The system perferably includes a driver electrode preferably removable from the housing through a side portion of the housing. Preferably, the driver electrode is insulated with a dielectric material and/or a catalyst. Preferably, a removable trailing electrode is configured within the housing and downstream of the collector electrode (242). Preferably, a first voltage source electronically is coupled to the emitter electrode and the collector electrode, and a second voltage source electrically is coupled to the trailing electrode. The second voltage source is independently and selectively controllable of the first voltage source.
