<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for converting image quality by detecting four- or N-dimensional continuous domain for a four-dimensional image consisting of a three-dimensional image varying in time or a N-dimensional image on the basis of independent N (≥4) type parameters, and also by superposing four- or N-dimensional spatial filter, respectively. <P>SOLUTION: When four-dimensionally scanning the four-dimensional image or N-dimensionally scanning the N-dimensional image, the same label number is given to the four- or N-dimensional continuous domain by looking at the continuity in a three-dimensional space or "N-1" dimensional space, and at the same time, by looking at the continuity in a time base or N-dimensional axis, centering on a pixel of interest in scanning. Also, the value of the pixel of interest is converted on the basis of the processing determined by the relationship between the value of the pixel of interest in scanning and the value of adjacent local domain.
