PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight unit for a liquid crystal display device capable of preventing a lift of a liquid crystal panel caused by the displacement of a diffusion film or an optical film arranged in the backlight unit, having the high efficiency of assembling work and excelling in reworkability. SOLUTION: In this backlight unit 40 where a reflecting film 14, a light guide plate 16, the diffusion film 18 and the optical film 20 are arranged in a rectangular frame-like case 42, an intermediate bottom plate for supporting the films and the plate material inserted in the case from the back side of the case is formed on the inside surface of the rectangular frame-like case.
