PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a television device capable of preventing against prolonged viewing in close proximity to a screen, and viewing a program scene during non-display later even if the screen is turned off to be non-display because of the prevention. SOLUTION: The television device comprises a display unit (4) for displaying images of a program on a screen (4a), a recorder (6) for recording the program, and control units (5, 8) for controlling display operation of the screen (4a) and recording operation of the recorder (6). In addition, the television device is provided with a detection means (82) for detecting a proximate person (100) who approaches to the screen (4a) within a distance (La) established beforehand, and sending out a detected signal. The control units (5, 8) control the recorder (6) to record a program (A) on display and control the display unit (4) to make the screen (4a) non-display, based on the detected signal.
