PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of convenience by improving housing performance of stands capable of holding an image reading apparatus in a longitudinal installing state without increasing the image reading apparatus body in size. SOLUTION: A housing unit 1c for housing the stands is provided on the bottom of an apparatus body 1 in a lateral installation state in which a document platen glass 2 is placed almost parallel. The stands 31, 32, 33 are released from the housing unit and extend from the bottom to the side of a document cover 6 and a hinge 7 to hold the apparatus body 1 in a longitudinal installation state.
