METHOD AND ARRANGEMENT FOR TREATING AN OVERHEAD CABLE AND AN OVERHEAD CABLE

The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for treating an overhead cable in a power transfer system intended for high voltages and high-power transfer. In the method of the invention, the overhead cable is coated with a hydrophobic film. The arrangement of the invention comprises coating means for coating the overhead cable with a hydrophobic film. The coating means of a preferred embodiment have been disposed as a movable coating apparatus allowing the film to be formed on previously installed and energised overhead cables. The invention is based on the idea of preventing especially hoar frost formation on the surface of the overhead cable by using a suitable film. The invention yields the advantage of preventing conditions favouring corona discharge from developing on the surface of the open cable. The invention also relates to an overhead cable in a power transfer system, especially a bare overhead cable intended for high voltages and high-power transfer and coated with a hydrophobic film in accordance with the invention.
