PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a deinking agent having both a good ink-releasing property and a good ink-collecting property. SOLUTION: This deinking agent comprising a compound prepared by adding an alkylene oxide to an amide compound having a hydrogen atom on the amide nitrogen, wherein the alkylene oxide comprises x moles of ethylene oxide units, y moles of propylene oxide units, and z moles of butylene oxide units on the average, and x, y and z satisfy the following relations of (I) to (IV); 2≤x≤100 (I), 2≤y≤100 (II), 0≤z≤100 (III), and 0.1≤x/(y+z)≤10 (IV).
