PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module in which a functional thin film element such as a wavelength selective filter can be fixed vertically to an optical waveguide. SOLUTION: A wavelength selective filter 8 is inserted into a supporting groove 11 of a supporting substrate 9 and fixed thereon. The supporting groove 11 is vertical to a stopper face 9a and provided with a groove width equivalent to the wavelength selective filter 8; therefore, the filter 8 inserted into the supporting groove 11 is vertical to the stopper face 9a. In the wavelength selective filter 8 held on the supporting substrate 9, a part projecting from the stopper face 9a is inserted into the inserting groove 7 of the optical waveguide 2, while the supporting substrate 9 is fixed, with the stopper face 9a abutted on the optical waveguide 2.
