PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multivalued information recording and reproducing method and a device which can reduce bit errors in binary data as much as possible even if detection errors are found in multivalued data. SOLUTION: The multivalued data having information bits converted from binary data and expressed in n bits (integer n≥2) are multivalued following a rule to change 1 bit when comparing the binary data of n bits corresponding to k-th and (k-1)-th level Mk, Mk-1 among levels of n-th power of 2 (n-th power of 2≤k≤2). Further, when reproducing the multivalued data on an optical disk, they are detected after applying waveform equalization to the reproduced signals. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
