The tubular watering can (1), for plants in tubs or pots or troughs, is inserted into the soil of the plant container. The upper end (3) is open for filling, with a sieve (15). The bottom end is welded or adhesive bonded to a base plate (2) in a watertight fit. The base plate has an opening (7) for an outflow tube (8), which has an upward curve (9) through a hole (10) in the base plate to the edge of the plant container (4) for connection to an automatic watering system. The tubular can, base plate and stiffeners are of plastics, metal or ceramics.
