The sun awning has a frame (1-3) and a material panel shaft (8) supported by support means (14,15) which have a roller support (21, 25, 30) at at least one of the ends of the shaft. The support means can have at at least one of the ends of the shaft a roller guideway (25) which is fixed on one side to the frame or shaft whilst a roller is connected on the other side to the shaft or frame.
