<p>Isolated polynucleotide (I) comprising a sequence that encodes an insect 5-aminolevulinate synthase polypeptide (II) comprising a defined sequence of 507 amino acids given in the specification, is new. Independent claims are also included for: (1) isolated polynucleotide (I) comprising a sequence with at least 75% identity with region 517-2034 of sequence (1), reproduced; (2) isolated polynucleotide (Ib) comprising a sequence that hybridizes under stringent conditions to the 517-2034 region of sequence (1); (3) recombinant vector containing (I), (Ia) or (Ib); (4) recombinant host cell that contains the vector of (3); (5) method for preparing an insect 5-aminolevulinate synthase (III) by culturing cells of (4); (6) purified protein having a sequence at least 80% identical with sequence (2); and (7) method for detecting an agent (X) that reduces the enzymatic activity of (III). ACTIVITY : Insecticide. No biological data given. MECHANISM OF ACTION : Enzymatic Inhibition. Inhibition of: (a) activity of 5-aminolevulinate synthase (III); or (b) synthesis of (III) or (III)-encoding mRNA. (III) catalyzes reaction of glycine with succinyl-CoA to form 5-aminolevulinate, a precursor of protoporphyrogen IX.</p> |
