<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device wherein display of a red background color having high display density and satisfactory visibility and high speed response are made possible. <P>SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display device having a laminated type liquid crystal display element wherein liquid crystal display elements 1 and 2 each formed by encapsulating a TN type liquid crystal 11 between a pair of transparent substrates 3 and 4 on which alignment layers 7 and 8 are formed, respectively, are laminated so as to be simultaneously driven, first and second polarizing plates 12 and 13, respectively, disposed on the outer surfaces of the laminated type liquid crystal display element and a backlight 14, retardation values (Δn×d) of the liquid crystal display elements 1 and 2 are reversely twisted in 0.3 to 0.7 μm and at least either one of the first and the second polarizing plates 12 and 13 is a red color system color polarizing plate having ≤1% transmittance when the polarizing plates are orthogonally disposed in 440 nm and 550 nm wavelength of incident light and ≥60% transmittance when the polarizing plates are orthogonally disposed in 650 nm wavelength of incident light. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
