PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for evaluating coloring power of a coating without using a white coating used for a reference paint, and a unit therefor. SOLUTION: This method for evaluating the coloring power of the coating includes (i) a process for measuring each spectral reflectance of an object to be coated in white and an object to be coated in black, (ii) a process for applying each coating on the object to be coated in white and the object to be coated in black to thereby form each thin film, (iii) a process for measuring the thickness of each thin film on the object coated in white and the object coated in black, (iv) a process for measuring the spectral reflectance of each thin film bedded on the object coated in white and the object coated in black, and (v) a process for evaluating the coloring power based on an algorithm. The algorithm provides the method for evaluating the coloring power, based on a numerical value calculated from each spectral reflectance of the object coated in white and the object coated in black, the thickness of each thin film formed on the object coated in white and the object coated in black, and the spectral reflectance of each thin film bedded on the object coated in white and the object coated in black.
