<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect winding of a transfer material around a fixing roller with inexpensive configuration in a fixing device such as a printer. <P>SOLUTION: The fixing roller 11 is heated by a halogen lamp (heater) 12 to fix a toner image on paper. Surface temperatures of the fixing roller 11 are detected by a thermistor 14 in contact with the surface of the fixing roller 11. On the basis of the temperatures measured by the thermistor 14, a maximum temperature and a minimum temperature when the paper passes through the fixing roller 11 are obtained. The temperature difference between the minimum temperature and the maximum temperature is obtained and the temperature difference is compared with a threshold value. When the temperature difference exceeds the threshold value, it is decided that winding of the transfer material around the fixing roller 11 has occurred. Since the thermistor 14 for temperature control can also be used as a means to detect winding of the transfer material, winding of the transfer material can be detected with the inexpensive configuration, smoking, ignition, etc., are prevented, and the safety can be enhanced. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
