GENE CLUSTER FOR RAMOPLANIN BIOSYNTHESIS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recombination method and recombinant substance for making ramoplanin by recombinant DNA technology, relating to a gene involved in ramoplanin biosynthesis.

SOLUTION: A specific contiguous DNA sequence comprises an ORF encoding a protein forming a ramoplanin gene cluster which relates to the biosynthesis of the antibiotic ramoplanin in microorganisms, and isolated genetic sequences encoding the protein. The isolated biosynthetic gene cluster serves as a substrate for bioengineering of antibiotic structures.
